A
cookie is a small bit of information that a web site stores on your hard disk as a text file. A cookie can help a web site to identify you the next time you visit and is often used as part of shopping cart
programs.Only the information that you provide, or the choices you make while visiting a Web site, can be stored in a cookie. For example, the site cannot determine your e-mail name unless you choose to type it.
Allowing a Web site to create a cookie does not give that or any other site access to the rest of your computer, and only the site that created the cookie can read it.
Cookies can accurately read your IP
address (the address that your computer is given when you sign onto the web). JewelryVilla.com uses cookies as part of our shopping cart system. When the shopping cart can accurately identify your address,
then the shopping cart can keep your order separate from other orders that are coming in at the same time. Another reason we track IP addresses is to report credit card fraud. We report all credit card fraud
to the proper authorities and give the IP address of the fraudulent credit card use so that the perpetrators can be identified and prosecuted.
